"Eliminated Moldy Odor In My Front Load Washer" 2009-10-08

I was at my wits end, trying to eliminate the moldy odor in my clothes washer. It was really bad (it broke down during a wash cycle and sat with wet clothes in it for week.) Over the course of many months, I tried a lot of different products, and while some helped quite a bit, none got rid of the smell completely until one night after cleaning the toilet, I had the thought I should try this product in the washer.
I lightly squirted it directly onto the drum, then set the washer for 'whites' with a temp of 'sanitize.' Note: Don't use too much if you try this, it will foam up during the wash cycle. The first load, I didn't use enough. On the second, it was almost too much. I didn't measure but I'm guessing a good amount would be about 1/3 cup.
I've read that mold in front load washers is a common problem, so if you're having the same issue, give this a whirl. It's been over a month and the moldy odor has not returned. I also learned to help prevent mold from returning (or from developing, if your machine doesn't already have mold issues) leave the door open after doing your laundry - if you can do so safely - until the inside of the washer has air dried.

I bought this because I have been searching for a "green" toilet bowl cleaner. In the past, I have used homemade earth-friendly concoctions, but they never seem to get the bowl clean enough. This stuff works great and doesn't have the awful smell usually associated with toilet bowl cleaners. I feel good using this product, and enjoy not having to drag out the borax etc... I wish that it came in a larger container or had refills. The price here is good, I have also found it on sale at my local supermarket (for less than $3!) and Target. Now if someone would just come out with an AFFORDABLE dishwasher detergent!
